Computer Training

Building the bridge between Borgne and the world of information

At the request of local teachers, the Fondasyon Dauphin began a computer training program in summer 2017 with the long term goal of establishing a cyber-cafe kind of environment where students and community members could conduct research on the internet.  The teachers were very interested in improving their computer literacy as well as their understanding pedagogical techniques and the specific subjects they teach. They also wanted to create a way to better share and teach computer skills to their students.

A generous grant from the Naples Council on World Affairs Village Assistance Program allowed us to purchase five laptops to use for teacher training as well as subscription to the internet for a year and an “internet in a box” that included complete Wikipedia at the time, 40,000 e-books, downloadable software, and world maps.  It is a device that acts like the internet even when connectivity is not available. Issues with our generator and poor local technologies for connecting to the internet have hampered the long term dream of a cyber cafe, but teacher seminars on using basic computers programs are offered each summer. Over time, as local access to the internet improves, we will continue to develop our computer training programs.
