OUR PROGRAMS
Friends of Borgne does all we can to support those needs.
Sponsoring Children’s Education with the Fondasyon Dauphin
Education in Haiti is not free. We support children from the most vulnerable families in Borgne with the tuition, books, uniforms and school supplies needed for an education.
Food Program for the Children of the Fondasyon Dauphin
Healthy brains need good nutrition. We support the skilled cooks at the Fondasyon Dauphin to provide a healthy daily meal to make sure our students are ready to learn.
Teacher Subsidies
By helping schools pay teacher salaries, they are able to lower tuition for all students, and teachers have consistent, guaranteed income to support their own families.
Traveling Library
Books are rare in the rural countryside of Haiti, even within the schools. Our librarian and books travel by donkey to bring the joy of reading to students and schools in remote villages.
Music Program
Learning to play an instrument is good for the brain and keeps children out of trouble after school. In Haiti it can also be a way to earn income, playing holidays and funerals.
Sewing Program
Due to the large market for uniforms, Haitians can earn a decent income sewing and mending. Using treadle machines, our sewing instructors teach young women this valuable skill.
Animal Husbandry
Raising animals is a way of saving and investing in Haiti. We partner with local peasant organizations to pass on the age-old skill of raising pigs to the youth contingent of their organizations.
Computer Training
As internet and computer access becomes more prevalent in the rural areas of Haiti, we are training teachers to incorporate technology in their learning and teaching.
Summer Programs
Summer programs vary each year, but provide continuity of instruction, opportunities for fun in a community atmosphere and much needed meals to students during the summer.
Cook and Baker Training
Learning one of the most fundamental professions
Emergency Support
Life in Haiti is fraught with challenges from the weather, natural disasters, and disease outbreaks. We support schools to keep their doors open and their students safe.
